Officials in Sacramento County are looking into a gun violence incident that took place Saturday evening at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment officers were shutting down a large unauthorized gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals.
How It Started
Sacramento County law enforcement were first called to the Arden-Arcade park at approximately 6:30 PM on April 18 after being notified of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Following that, a second call came in regarding a reported physical confrontation occurring within the park grounds.
A law enforcement helicopter flew over the park but found nothing to substantiate the Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 fight report. Even so, it became clear that a massive group had gathered without authorization without any permit or approval.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies moved to clear the area by positioning themselves around the crowd and using their vehicle PA systems directing the assembled crowd to leave immediately. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for people to comply.
At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. The sudden gunfire triggered a stampede. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies wasted no time in identifying shooting victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
When the dust settled, four individuals were discovered with shooting injuries. All four — comprising three men and one woman each reported to be in their mid to late twenties — were brought to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical personnel noted that two had critical injury classifications, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one suffered minor injuries. Thankfully, all four were in stable condition.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District also responded and assisted with medical triage those who had been shot before they were taken to the hospital.
Evidence at the Scene
The primary shooting scene was confirmed to have taken place on the Cottage Way corridor alongside the local Home Depot situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Law enforcement investigators found additional spent rounds along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were noted in the wrought iron perimeter fencing adjacent to the Home Depot. These findings indicated that at least one shooter had been aiming south from the Cottage Way area aimed at the Home Depot store. The store itself was placed on lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives stayed at the location for hours.
Suspect Vehicle Located
Reports confirmed through law enforcement radio communications established that a Kia had been stopped in Solano County California. Four detainees were detained. Law enforcement units were dispatched to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for processing in Sacramento County. Surveillance footage established that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
